I’m reeling from the fact that it’s actually December. Twenty-four days til Christmas, and it’s all about us moms making the holiday magic, am I right? So it’s time for a little holiday home tour action. Part 1 is this week, and part 2 with our trees will be next week! Oh — and next week? It’s gonna be all about some fantastic giveaways. I’m talking MAJOR – like diamond earring major. YES!
But I’m getting ahead of myself. Ginger jars and greenery and wreaths and simply-dressed Christmas trees. There’s something about simplicity this year that feels good. My post this week at Better Homes & Gardens is all about Scandinavian Christmas decorations and their focus on natural elements, wood, candlelight, and pops of color to accent all that crisp clean white. I liked the idea of including a mix of Chinoiserie into all that simplicity and envisioned ginger jars down the center of our dining room table with pops of red roses and big fluffy hydrangeas.
My mother has practically every single piece of Blue Danube china (here’s an interesting history on it) ever made and as a kid, I didn’t care for its flowery design (funny b/c I wanted to redecorate their entire house when I was a teenager and now I love EVERYTHING they had #fullcircle). It was what we used on a daily basis (which in retrospect, I totally applaud — hooray for using pretty things on any given Tuesday). But now I’m much more appreciative of the beautiful design and the blue and white color scheme. I asked Mom if I could borrow a few place settings and she happily agreed, along with a couple of her own ginger jars to complete the scene.

Love these ginger jars so much. I’m thinking they’d be so fab in our fireplace too.
Along the buffet against the mirror, my big white Bungalow 5 pagodas got dressed up with these battery-powered dewdrop lights that I picked up at Target. I’m officially in love with these lights; they’re bendable and are perfect for wrapping around evergreen garland or wadding up in a ball inside of a lantern. They’re just so darn cute and shiny!

So pretty. I love how bright it feels during the day with the sunlight streaming in.
Meanwhile, in the breakfast nook, it’s all about these wreaths:
So simple but so happy! The typographic nerd in me is a total sucker for any kind of word decor, and I couldn’t resist the JOY spruce wreath set from Ballard Designs. I strung them with the dewdrop lights and they’re on a timer, so they pop on and off for a few hours at a time. I’ll have to do an Instagram story at night to show you how they glow. But the part that really makes me laugh is when I walk through the backyard and see them spelling YOJ through the window. haha
I havne’t busted out too many of our regular Christmas decorations (read: the breakables) since Archer is in full-on Mr. Destructo mode these days. It doesn’t feel worth the stress to me, and like I said, simplicity feels right this year.
