Today I’m pairing up with the stylish color-loving folks at Stray Dog Designs to talk about how to style your nightstand. With our master bedroom makeover, I knew that we’d need some bold and colorful lamps to pop against all that serene white and there’s no better way to make a style statement than a fantastic table lamp.
I’d eventually like to switch out our existing mismatched side tables for something larger and with more storage (like these campaign tables), especially since one of the legs on mine flew off during the mayhem of having our floors redone (GAHHHH). But the ones we have now get the job done as they’re high enough to reach from the bed and provide plenty of space for the large glass-blown table lamp, a tray, a stack of books, and some picture frames which are all the must-haves, right at hand.
Look how gorgeous those lamp shades are. I love the big glass finial at the top.
I personally like having enclosed nightstands as they provide more enclosed storage for those little things that you don’t always want to display. Mine is stuffed full of books, jewelry, scarves, Legos, Nerf bullets (THEY ARE MULTIPLYING), and those weird nose strip things that help you breathe at night. Simon’s is full of ear plugs because apparently I snore. ?
On Simon’s side, a tray is great for catching small things like coins or collar stays. A small ceramic vase (similar from Jill Rosenwald) holds the Apple TV remote.
The Esme lamps that Stray Dog Designs sent are so much larger than the other lamps we’d had, and they fit the scale of the room better. The shades are tole and with that gold interior, the light they put out is fabulous – perfect for snuggling up with a good book before bed.

On my side of the bed, I mounted a power strip to the back of the nightstand with a couple of 3M Command Strips. It keeps the outlets easily at hand for the lamp as well as my iPhone charger and anything else I might need to plug in like the vacuum. I like that it also keeps all the cords off the ground. I need to do the same thing to Simon’s side of the bed too. Cords are so ugly!!
Not really nightstand-related, but I’m in luv with these gorgeous big striped baskets from Target. It’s the perfect thing for laundry or for containing all the pillows when you toss them off the bed. I mean, I know I’m not the only one who has eight billion pillows on the bed, amiright?
Good news for one of you lucky readers – Stray Dog Designs would like to give away one Esmé Lamp with the shade color of your choosing (and there’s ten different ones you could pick!). Open to all US readers and the winner will be chosen at random.
