WW Update: Post-NYC Edition

Health

THIS WEEK

We were in Manhattan for most of the week, which meant tons of opportunities to walk our tails off and eat amazing, delicious things in addition to attending the Better Homes & Gardens Stylemaker workshop. Nobody has restaurants like NYC. Everything has to be good because there’s so much competition, right?

WHAT WORKED

I kept protein bars in my purse for times when we were in a pinch and weren’t going to be close to eating anything. It was nice for those moments when I was STARVING. And I looked for fruit to eat at every opportunity. Our hotel had tons of fresh fruit out daily, free for the taking!

We walked EVERYWHERE. My Apple Watch showed upwards of 14,000 steps and it felt really good to be so active.

WHAT DIDN’T WORK

If I’m being honest, it’s safe to say I completely fell off the bandwagon while we were in NYC. I didn’t track my meals AT ALL. It was really hard to stay on task when we were constantly faced with so many amazing restaurants. But the difference was that I allowed myself to indulge without feeling guilty about it. The nonstop activity helped, but so did the fact that it was worth it to me to spend all those points on some amazing experiences. Because it wasn’t about the food – it was about the memories being made with Simon and Jude.

Because WW is about accountability, I did weigh in on Wednesday after we got home from our trip Sunday night even though I knew it wasn’t going to be pretty. And much like I expected, I gained .8 pounds, which isn’t exactly earth-shattering, but frustrating nonetheless. I’m in a gain/lose mode lately and can’t seem to get past it.

But I’m still proud of me. I didn’t go entirely off the rails on our trip and all’s well that ends well.

TRY THIS

Kodiak Cakes Cornbread Mix is DIVINE. 2 smart points when you sub greek yogurt for the butter in the recipe on the back of the box. DELISH. Like, so good that I ate it for breakfast the next morning and it might have been even better.

Things to do with friends (other than eating dinner)
