ORC Week 4: Wallpaper + Art

One Room Challenge

This week was all about details as we got wallpaper installed and accessories lined up.   (Follow-up on Week 1 Week 2 Week 3 if you’re just tuning in, and welcome to any new readers! I’m Rachel and I’ve never met a color I didn’t love. I’m an interior designer, blogger, and mom in Oklahoma City.)

ENTRYWAY WALLPAPER

The biggest thing to happen this week was the lovely wallpaper from Thibaut was installed.  Modern Resource is one of Thibaut’s newest wallpaper collections, and it has such a chic vibe. This pattern is called Hayworth and comes in 9 perfect colors. Because of the existing paint throughout the rest of the space is kind of a greige, I wanted to choose a wallpaper that would compliment it without contrasting too harshly. Plus, they had that pretty Bernhardt buffet already and I could imagine how all the textures were going to play off each other.

Now we’re experimenting with bringing in pops of accent color — my favorite part!

SPEAKING OF COLOR

This is where it’s starting to get fun — accessories and artwork are what make a space feel really distinct. But if I’m being honest, this is also the most time-consuming and difficult part of any design job. Art is so personal – it’s hard to pick it out for other people.  And you want to have pieces that make you feel something, not just go with your couch.  In this space, it was important to me to bring in pieces that would match the scale of the room — those ceilings are SO tall — but this is also our opportunity to play with color in an otherwise pretty neutral palette.

I spent most of today with Archer, playing around with arranging furniture and deciding where to hang the art — we still need to get the existing TV off the wall so we can replace it with one of these paintings.

And of course, Max was super curious about what these new treats are all about.
