Time for Back to School Shopping

Family

I have to tell you – being the serial shopper that I am – that back to school shopping was perhaps my most favorite shopping time of year growing up. I loved nothing more than going to pick out fresh new clothes (and school supplies, natch!) in preparation for a shiny new year. This is Jude’s first year of legit school and so when EngageOKC asked us if we would go on a little shopping excursion to one of the best stores for children’s clothing, shoes, accessories and gear in Oklahoma City, we said sure!

Uptown Kids in Classen Curve is like one of my own children because I did all the graphic design work for it when it opened a few years ago. My sister-in-law Carolyn and her husband Gary have worked uber-hard to make it a smashing success.

They’ve been written up in more international design magazines than I can count, and have even received some pretty amazing awards. The selection of infant apparel, gear, and kids’ apparel is unlike any other in the city.

And of course there’s the famous big yellow box. I kinda wish I had a big yellow box at my house. Don’t you?

This year, Jude doesn’t have to wear a uniform, but his wardrobe does need a little polishing up due to his crazy growth spurt over the past few months. Good, cute boy clothes without obnoxious slogans, logos, or tacky illustrations are so difficult to find somehow.  Luckily Uptown Kids has been really great about finding unique items for boys that don’t scream “I ONLY  LIKE TRUCKS AND SOCCER BALLS!”

My favorite part was when he ran in with these hilariously awesome TOMS and said, “MOM! They have PIRATE shoes! Can I pleeeeeeze have some?’

Look at that face below. Could you say no to pirate shoes?

Those seersucker shorts (above) paired with that polka dot linen shirt was such a fun way to mix patterns on a boy.

In the end, we came away with some snazzy new shorts, shoes, and some tops.  Oh, and of course we had to get one of the OKC baseball tees!

Thank you, Uptown Kids, for having us!  We LOVE you!
