I love decorating with books. I’m an avid reader, and to me there’s something about having them all over the house. They’re like friends that I’m happy to visit over and over again. And naturally I gravitate towards design and decor books although I’m also a huge fiction fan. I’ll read almost anything!
UNCONVENTIONAL BOOKSHELVES
Someday I’d love to have a legit library (complete with a ladder!) just like the one in this listing Simon has right now (THE LADDER I DIEEEEEE). I mean isn’t that divine? But in the meantime, I’m finding other nooks and crannies to store them in, like my grandmother’s china cabinet.
It’s stuffed to the gills with a menagerie of brass animals, little knicknacks, favorite fiction finds, decor book, and my library of Instagram books. I subscribed to Chatbooks and have had my entire Instagram feed printed and shipped to us for $6 a book. I think their prices are going up to $8 a book, but still – that’s a pretty good deal. (Pssst — use code Z4NPNKZ9 for your first book free!).
FILL UP THE MANTEL
And on the mantel, my rainbow display of books is feeling right at home. But the thing about decorating with books is that you don’t want it to feel too boring. Personalize it with frames, vases, tchotchkes. You know, all the special breakable things that kids love to destroy.
I’m sorry, was that out loud? I mean, uhhh …
ADD HEIGHT IN A PINCH
I also use them to give a little more height to lamps that need a boost to give a better proportion to the space they’re in. So stack ’em away!
