kitchen pendants // master bathroom vanity light // ceiling fans // yellow lamps // blue lamps
Not too long after we got our offer accepted on our house at Carlton Landing, we had a design meeting to pick a few things out. I told the builder that I’m picky about hardware, and I’m definitely picky about lighting. I think both are finishing details that can either make or break a space. And luckily Lamps Plus feels the same way and wanted to help me out with a few things for the house!
As I’ve been designing the interiors, I’ll admit it: I’ve had a hard time making this house feel casual. I mean, it’s a lake house – it doesn’t need to be dressy, you know? But I didn’t want it to swing to the opposite side of the style pendulum and be too casual. So balance is the name of the game.
A few things are non-negotiables, though:
First of all, there must always be color. Secondly, I want industrial accents. And ideally I don’t want to spend a bajillion dollars.
We also had a few design conundrums to figure out. Here’s where I was struggling:
Lamps Plus has over 60,000 lighting fixtures to choose from. That’s insane – although I’m 99% sure that I’ve seen most of them, because I pored over page after page of amazing choices. I knew for sure that I wanted something industrial and fun, but just to be on the safe side, I also had their lighting experts send over a few suggestions. Luckily they came up with some great ideas that I hadn’t seen yet. I did a few Photoshop mockups of some of my favorite items to get an idea of what it would look like in the house. Here’s what I came up with:
The upstairs stairwell has room for 2 hanging pendants. I thought these Quoizel Piccolo pendants were fun – nautical but still industrial.
Downstairs in the kitchen, there will be two pendants over the bar, as well as several can lights. I love that these pendants feel like jewelry – industrial fabulous jewelry.
We also wrestled with what to do on the beam that goes across the living room. There was space for two fixtures, directly across from the two front doors. These semi flush mount pendants might bring in the perfect amount of light without distracting from the shiny chrome pendants in the kitchen.
It’s so exciting to see it all come together. Did you see the sneak preview I posted yesterday? Counting the days …
