One of the highlights of 2012 for me was being a part of the Pop Up Shops in downtown OKC. It was fun to design the space, fill it with my favorite things, and meet some really amazing people. The icing on the cake? Being nominated as one of the best pop up shops in the OK Gazette. A win win, all the way around. So it was a no-brainer to me to participate again this year.
Only this year it’s going to be about 15x more amazing. And more fun.
I introduce to you the official Holiday Pop-Up Shop geodesic dome.
It’s a little naked right now – it’s like a tent/igloo that’s fully heated and air conditioned so it has a big tent-ish covering that encloses it. It has a pair of double doors that open up, and the front of the dome will be clear, like a giant window. Allison set up a model for us retailers in a storage room at NorthPark Mall so we could have an idea of what to expect. In the pop up “village”, there will be 6 igloos total. Isn’t it crazy awesome? I’m sharing space with the fab girls at Gretta Sloane and I’m literally counting the days!
My lovely assistant Nancy and I came straight home and started assembling a layout of how we want our shop to look in the dome. Think white Christmas trees, confetti, colorful holiday decorations, and loads of fun stuff! Last year I set everything up in my living room to help me prep for how much inventory to fill. This year’s space is going to be twice as large(!) and pretty much the same size as my studio upstairs.
And much like last year, I’ll probably also be using a ton of our own actual furniture – hello, Jonathan Adler dining room table! Won’t it be gorgeous in that dome w/ a 4′ white Christmas tree on top? SQUEAL!
Spot the teeny tiny Pencil Shavings Studio puppy!
For my front window, I’m planning on putting my large white Christmas trees and pretty white bench in the front with all our fun new pillows. Christmas color wonderland!
As I’m looking at these photos, I’m noticing that several of my frames are wonky. Did you know we’ve been having a lot of earthquakes here in OKC? True! And while I haven’t felt many, apparently my walls have!
Melamine platters have been selling like crazy this week – I’m planning on having plenty in stock too!
Mark your calendars, friends! I can’t wait to see you the weekend of Thanksgiving downtown!
