Big Boy Bike

A few weeks ago at Mother’s Day Out, it was “bring your bike to school” day. To be honest, Jude hasn’t been out riding bikes lately as he’s preferred to play out on the “pirate ship” and other things. So, I tossed his tricycle into the back of the car and off we went. At MDO, I noticed all the other kids in his class had “big kid” bikes – bikes that seemed way too big for these little tiny three year olds. So at the end of the day when I picked Jude up, there he was with all the other kids on their big kid bikes and Jude on his trike. And the poor kid — I told him to put his feet on the pedals to catch up with the other kids and he couldn’t pedal the trike because his legs were too long.

Cue the massive parental guilt!

Never in my wildest dreams would I have realized that my baby boy was big enough to ride on an honest-to-goodness bike. Of course Simon (aka Mr. Fancy Bike) felt equally mortified and so this last weekend, off to the bike store we went.  At 108 degrees, the weather is less than perfect for being outdoors for any length of time, but oh well. He’s happy as a clam and that makes us happy.  He’s so stinkin’ proud of himself, and I am in awe of a little tiny boy who is somehow big enough to have a big kid bike.
