Inspired for Change

Living

Finally getting Jude’s playroom painted has inspired me to tackle some of the other paint projects that I’ve been wanting to get to since we moved in. Painting a room is the easiest way to get a whole new look for not a lot of money. The tricky part is finding the right color. In our old house, I think I painted no less than 8 (probably more, actually) different colors in our dining room before I finally landed on the right one. My suggestion is to go to a paint store, pick out as many swatches that you prefer, and hang them on the wall. Then start editing. When you’ve finally decided on a color, pick three different versions of it to paint swatches of because you will be amazed at how different they will actually look on your walls. Review the colors in different lights and different times of day.
Remember the bunny toile bathroom? Well, bunnies no more! The wallpaper is gone, and the bathroom will be textured with the help of my fabulous sister-in-law Carolyn this weekend. Then, I’m going to get to painting… I’m thinking that the final color will be the swatch on the far right. Definitely not the center one — too green.
Aaaand, while I was at it, I picked up a couple of samples of a deep coral for my studio. Whichever color I decide to go with, I’m definitely going to get it in eggshell. The satin is just a wee bit too glossy for my liking in this room. I think also that with such a bright color, the eggshell will absorb more of the light in the room and it won’t be too glaring.

Which one do you prefer?
with love,
Rachel
