Ahh, pretty Deauville. A newfound favorite place, that’s for sure. Only a 2-hour train ride away from Paris, it’s a magical little seaside community full of beautiful hotels and gorgeous architecture. It is most definitely worth a trip to see.
Deauville also has an honest-to-goodness boardwalk, complete with all these little cabines that you can rent out. And each one has the name of an American film star.
Deauville’s famous beach, complete with parasols.
We could not stop gaping at the beautiful architecture of the town. Everywhere you turned was more beautiful houses. The Normandy Barriere was a grand hotel close to the beach. It reminded me very much of the grandness of the Hotel del Coronado in San Diego. On the peak of each eave perched a different finial. I think they were ceramic or porcelain – either way, glossy and beautiful. Some were roosters, or horses or other figurines.
But the funniest thing we saw? This porcelain cat on the roof of a house not far from our hotel that was chasing those poor little porcelain birds. So whimsical!
