Decorating for Fall, Chinoiserie Edition

Our House

Bold fall decor with a Chinoiserie twist: our Thibaut wallpaper entryway in a silhouette floral is paired with a vintage white campaign desk and a pair of ceramic Bungalow 5 pagodas. For fall this year, I brought in a mix of white, green and traditional orange pumpkins along with a handful of velvet pumpkins too. www.pencilshavingsstudio.com

Have you started decorating for fall yet? I’m having a major chinoiserie moment over here.  October in our house is full of birthdays, both Simon’s and Jude’s, as well as fall break and lots of other fun things. I’ve been rearranging furniture and prepping for the One Room Challenge that begins on October 6th and it feels good to refresh everything in anticipation of the upcoming holidays.  Isn’t it such a fun season of transition? I love fall so much.

But this week will be a short one chez Shingleton as we’re headed to New York on Tuesday night with Jude. That’s right – get ready for another Jude Takes on NYC v2.0. Except this time there’s no FAO Schwarz (wahhh).  I’m headed to the Better Homes & Gardens Stylemaker event on Thursday and Friday to catch up with blogger friends and also to thank the BHG team profusely for including us in their new Stylemaker magazine.  They came out to our house in May and shot several rooms to include in this brand new magazine they’re launching this week and I’m still in awe that it actually is happening. The house is in a national magazine. How did this happen?

CHINOISERIE EVERYTHING

Ok, so for last week’s pumpkin of the week we talked about creating metallic pumpkins with copper leaf, and to continue my fall decor series (just WAIT til you see what Rita Ortloff has cooked up for NEXT week’s pumpkin of the week! Whee!),  I photographed some of the different ways I’ve decorated around our house for fall. I had this idea about creating a Chinoiserie-inspired fall display in the entryway and I wanted to use my big ceramic pagodas  for awhile to mix it up a bit.

It’s a mix of velvet pumpkins (which are 15% off w/ code PS15 thru October 15), real pumpkins in a variety of shades, and a few squash (squashes? squashi?) too. In the family room, I played around with a more monochromatic, calming look to balance out all the crazy color and pattern happening in the fancy pants Chinoiserie entryway.

Love that chalky peachy tone of the squash. Of course, naturally Archer has picked up every single pumpkin he can get his hands on and thrown them across the room. I’m not going to cross my fingers that any of this will actually last. So let’s enjoy it cemented in photos For All Time. 😉

I have a feeling that most of the real pumpkins will end up transitioning outdoors but I’m not going to let the squirrels feast on the pumpkins just yet. Especially when we’ve got a solid month left til Halloween.

Editor’s note: Thanks again to Plush Pumpkin for the velvet pumpkins. You’ll see more of these popping up as we head into holiday season, but grab ’em while you can at 15% off with code PS15 through October 15th.
with love,
Rachel
