I believe in summer magic – that somewhat undefinable feeling you get, maybe especially when you’re a kid, of warm evenings, swimming in the pool, fireflies, late bedtimes, and general summer loveliness. It’s no schedules, no homework, no rush rush rush like the rest of the year, long hours of sunlight and loads of empty hours.  I partnered up with Hedgehouse to come up with a few ideas on how to create a little summer magic for yourself.

1. MAKE A TENT WITH YOUR KIDS

Pillow forts and tents outside are easy to make and provide endless opportunities for adventure. Don’t forget a lantern, pillows, and a good book or two. And maybe a yummy drink in a copper mug for you. 😉

2. HAVE A COFFEE TABLE PICNIC

Pull your coffee table outside and toss a few pillows out to sit on. Even the simplest meal can become something memorable. Go for easy: French jams, cheese, bread, etc.

3. CREATE A SLEEPING PORCH

I love the idea of a traditional Southern sleeping porch. Make your own for lounging for not a lot of $$$. Vintage camping cots can be found on eBay or on your local Craigslist (I found mine for $10! Although I’m not entirely sure someone didn’t die on it, if I’m being honest. #vintage) I layered ours with several throwbeds – and everything folds up and fits into a hall closet when we’re done. String a few lights overhead for extra ambiance.

4.COZY UP ON A PORCH SWING WITH A GOOD BOOK

You simply cannot beat a gorgeous porch swing. Prop up a few stools to keep drinks, lights or a good book at hand. Layer it up with pillows for extra comfort.

5. BE PICNIC-READY AT THE DROP OF A HAT

Keep summer essentials at the ready: a picnic blanket, sunscreen, a broad sun hat, sunglasses, and other goodies can all happily fit in a drawstring bag for fun on the fly.

Ok, amigos — hope you’re inspired to go create a little summer magic on your own. (FYI: Summer Magic is also a fun old Disney movie with Hayley Mills, if you’re a fan of those liveaction 1960s classics.) My friends at Hedgehouse want PSS readers to create summer magic on their own, so we’re giving away one blue Majorca throwbed!
