Happy Monday! I’m back from vacation hiatus and ready to share some fun new projects with you! At the beginning of summer, I had this idea to create a colorful kids library in our playroom and so I reached out to my friends at the Land of Nod to help me make it happen.

Reading is a big deal in these parts right now. Jude’s getting ready to enter the second grade which has a heavy emphasis on reading, and I’ve been hopeful that the years I’ve put in reading to him every day are going to pay off with a love of books. So far, so good!

I saw the New Issue bookshelf from the Land of Nod and fell in love. They’re so stylish and simple and I love that they display the books like art. Kids books are so colorful and artistic.

So what do you need in the perfect library? A few goodies: great lighting, a comfy lounging space, an easily-accessible bookshelf, and loads of reading material. And since my idea was to have it all arranged according to color, I thought we needed some color-appropriate art too. I whipped up these different color theory prints and had them printed and framed thanks to SnapBox.

The fun and functional Lovell sconces from Barn Light Electric provide a classic library look to the artwork. Those colorful wrapped cords make my day against that brass hardware (totally customizable, by the way).

A gorgeous French children’s book I picked up in the Paris flea markets a few years ago. The color is divine.2015-07-15-14.38.09

Row upon row of books!

I borrowed a few Hedgehouse Harbour Stripe throwbeds and pillows (all in down! so soft!) in punchy stripe colors for the shoot (LOOK AT MAH BAYBEE!), but we fell in love with them, so I tracked a few down on sale. I love how versatile they are and completely washable. Perfect for fort-making, snuggling, movie-watching, and general daydreaming.

And of course you need a happy stack of classic books, ready to be discovered by a whole new generation.

And all of our Little Golden books look so happy and organized on the Color Bar ledges in the corner.
